NOTE: This record has yet to be fully checked.

Laghuśabdenduśekhara, 18th cent.?

Contents

Language(s): Sanskrit.

Physical Description

Form: pothī
Support: Paper
Extent: ii + 393 + ii. The original foliation nakes 245 (really 246, as f. 45 is repeated) + 147 leaves.
Dimensions (binding): 31.1 × 17.1 cm.

Hand(s)

Devanāgarī in black ink.

Scribe:

(1) f. 246v: likhitam idaṃ Gaṇeśamiśreṇa |

(2) f. 393: mayā Kāśmīrī (blank) likhitaṃ | These notices present difficulties; from the handwriting one would distinguish three main scribes: (1) ff. 1–95 (excluding 61–75); (2) ff. 96–319; (3) ff.319v–393. 1 and 3 are distinctly Kaśmīrī hands, while 2 (Gaṇeśamiśra’s) is ordinary Devanāgarī. But all three pieces look as if they were of the same date, though it is perhaps possible that 3 is as late as 1793 A. D.

History

Origin: 18th cent.?

Date:

(1) ff. 246v: saṃvat 1818 ⟨1762⟩ āṣāḍhauklapūrṇamāsyāṃ bhrguvārānvitāyāṃ |

(2) f. 393: saṃvat 69 mārgaśuti | mārgaśiṣaramāse śuklapakṣe daśamyāṃ guruvāsarānvitāyāṃ | There can be little or no doubt that this is a Saptarsi date, and therefore = (17)93 A. D. The only other possibility is to make it 1669 śaka = A. D. 1747.
