MSS. Mill
A paper manuscript consisting of seventeen separately foliated texts from the Mahābhārata, the Pañcaratna, as well as various stotras and kavacas. Illustrated with twelve miniatures and floral borders.

Condition
Complete.
Folios in good condition. Binding worn through in multiple places, with a hole in the fabric of the flap.
Layout
6 lines per page, approximately 20 akṣara s per line.
Details on frame: 6.5 × 12 cm.
Framed with a ruled border in black, red, and orange pigment. Initial page of each manuscript part is framed with an ornate border with gold floral motifs on black, red, blue, and beige background.
Hand(s)
Devanāgarī in black and red ink. Initial pages of each part include Devanāgarī in gold ink.
Scribe: Bhābhūrāmakī
F. 559: ‘likhitaṃ kaśmīramadhye hāthapaṃḍita bhābhūrāmakī paṭhanārthī vaiṣṇavakausalyā-dāsavidyārthī śubham |’ The scribe might be identical to the the scribe of MS. Mill 111.
The inbound paper note contains a manuscript note in black ink in modern hand, most likely of the cataloguer Theodor Aufrecht, listing the foliation of the manuscript.
Abbreviated marginal title on top-left margin, verso.
Binding
Possibly a contemporary binding in South Asian red and yellow striped cloth over pasteboard, with a triangular flap. A brown leather compartment with the title tooled in gold inset on the spine. Shelfmark number painted in white pigment on the spine. Cardboard cover box.
Binding in a deteriorating condition, with many loose threads and holes on the flap.
History
F. 559r: ‘oṃ saṃvat 1879 bhāśruti tṛtīyasyāṃ ravau |’
Keith dates the text to saṃvat 1873 / 1817 CE, but suggests that ‘"3 is doubtful"’ .Provenance and Acquisition
The collections of William Hodge Mill were purchased by the Bodleian Library in 1849 and 1858 .
